COMMENTS:  PENOBSCOT LAKE LODGE: The last of the best in remote secludes water front property is now offered for sale

Fish for wild Brook Trout and the rare and elusive Blue Back trout in this unspoiled remote lake located less than a mile from the Canadian Border in Northwestern Maine. Penobscot Lake is 4 miles long and 2 miles wide and is a stream and spring fed lake that is surrounded by a 350 thousand acre conservation easement. It is called The West Branch Easement and this is one a handful of privately owned parcels within the boundaries of the easement. The Lodge has been operated commercially for over 100 years. Recently, it has been used as a family retreat. Game is plentiful here. The present owner shot one of the largest moose in the state here and the state record for whitetail was take only a few miles from the lodge. The lodge boasts roughly 20 acres with 1600' of frontage facing the South; sunrises are spectacular here. The lodge itself is a sixty foot long building with a huge kitchen and an apartment upstairs with awesome views of the lake. The sitting area of the lodge is nicely decorated and boasts a stone hearth for those cooler times. There is a full length porch on the lodge. This is a great place to get caught up on your quiet time. There are 8 cabins with all amenities and are very cozy. The history of the lodge is a bit mysterious as records have been lost over the years. We believe it was originally built as a logging camp and later turned into a sporting camp. There have been fires here and the history is vague, but the camps have been built and rebuilt until the fifties. The gentleman who invented Jell-O, used to own the camps and after he passed, his wife replaced six of the cottages and the main lodge. Two of the cottages are original vertical log cabins. The others are Ward Cedar Log Cabins. A solar system takes care of all our electrical needs including a full kitchen. Hot water is provided from propane water heaters.
